When my husband and I moved to Woodinville, WA., in the spring of 2002, I never thought that we would become the brunt of so many jokes! We had lived in Dunwoody,GA. for 14 years, and this was a difficult move for us to leave so much behind. As we looked at similar suburban properties in WA., I suddenly just said, “Why don’t we do something entirely different? Let’s look for acreage and raise goats!” I have no idea where that came from, but I must say, sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for!
Now almost 15 years later, after returning to Georgia in 2004 with the goats in tow, (literally), we continue to raise purebred, ADGA registered Nubians. I now consider myself somewhat of an expert on maintaining a healthy, disease and CAE-free herd, milking, pasteurizing, making cheese, yogurt and soap! Through the years, I have added Americana hens to the farm, (they lay bluish-green eggs, a la Dr. Suess!), a 120 lb. Great Pyrenees dog to guard the goats, 3 barn cats, and another rescue dog that does chores with my husband and me. This array of animals and our organic vegetable garden have brought us much joy, as our four children left home for college, work and marriage!
We are happy for you to visit us at Maggie's Family Farm in Ball Ground, GA.
